Sports Drinks are beverages whose stated purpose is to help athletes replace water, electrolytes, and energy before or after training or competition. Now someone can’t just go on after a 90 minute of intensive training and go eat banana, the first instinct is to go for a glass or bottle of water, but simple water can’t provide for the sodium that is lost through sweating. Something more is needed and sports drinks have a claim of exactly that. They provide electrolytes, which is just a scientific term meaning “your brain needs these to work”, they are a currency brain accepts.

In a world where everything is highly specialized, where the human body is more properly understood, and where people prefer to leave no stones unturned, sports drinks have become a basic necessity. Athletes are known to take great care of their bodies. Proper food intake and ample rest are very important if to keep up with the gruesome training routines. They also lose a lot of water and minerals during these activities in the form of sweat and simple water just doesn’t suffice for these loses. A stated purpose of sports drinks, which provide many calories of energy from sugars is to improve performance and endurance. They are healthier than water after or during high intensity training, they are tastier even and give a good excuse to consume something along the lines of soft drinks but without the harms carbonated drinks carry.

Some people read books, some enjoy music and movies others are involved in a lot of activities the amount which is incomprehensible, a major part of leisure activities are sports, the great outdoors. The keen interest of the millennial generation in sports, inclination towards fitness, increasing disposable incomes and willingness to pay for health products has skyrocketed the demand for these sugary drinks (good sugar). The increasing number of fitness centers and health clubs also contribute to the growth of the market. Even though the old folks still consider them a taboo and shouting “Milk and bananas” all the way is their way of showing their disagreement, science doesn’t lie. A lot of these drinks work with close communication with professional athletes and a good amount of research goes into testing and retesting the amount of electrolytes they should contain, some of them even get personalized cocktails of these to stay in peak form.

Sports drinks might be considered over the top by some, others may think its just the marketing behind them but people who use them regularly know how real and helpful they are, when someone is pushing their physical limits.
