BCE Inc. (BCE or “the company”) is a telecommunications company engaged in the provision of a suite of broadband communications and content services to consumer, residential, business and government customers in Canada. The company offers wireline voice, wireless communications, internet access, data and TV product and services. At the end of FY2016, BCE had approximately 8.5 million wireless subscribers, 2.7 million IPTV, Fibe TV and FibreOP TV, and DTH TV subscribers and 3.5 million high speed internet subscribers. The company primarily operates in Canada.

BCE operates through three business segments: Bell Wireline, Bell Wireless and Bell Media.

Bell Wireline segment provides data, including internet access and IPTV, local telephone, long distance, as well as other communications services and products to residential, small and medium-sized business and large enterprise customers, primarily in Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. It also offers Satellite TV service and connectivity to business customers nationally across Canada. In addition, the segment includes the wholesale business of the company which buys and sells local telephone, long distance, data and other services from or to resellers and other carriers. The segment also offers competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) services in Alberta and British Columbia. In addition, the segment includes the wireline operations of Northwestel, which provides telecommunications services in Canada’s Northern Territories; and the operations of the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, the Source, which is engaged in the sales of wireline-related products. At the end of FY2016, the company had the largest fiber network in Canada, spanning over 196,000 kilometers. In FY2016, the Bell Wireline segment reported revenues of C$11,917 million, which accounted for 54.9% of the company’s total revenue.

Bell Wireless segment provides integrated digital wireless voice and data communications products and services to residential and business customers across Canada. The data services offered by the wireless segment include fast web access, social networking, text messaging, picture and video messaging and call features. Additionally, it offers mobile business services, including push-to-talk, workforce management, worker safety, dispatch, and mobile device management. BCE provide wireless communications services under the Bell and Virgin Mobile brands. The segment also encompasses the operations of Bell Mobility and wireless-related product sales from the Source. At the end of FY2016, the company’s evolved high speed packet access (HSPA+) network offered high-speed mobile access to 98% of the Canadian population. Its fourth generation (4G) long term evolution (LTE) network reached over 97% of the Canadian population. BCE also provides LTE Advanced (LTE-A) network services which covered 73% of the Canadian population at the end of FY2016. In addition, the company operated a national third generation (3G) code division multiple access (CDMA) network that covered 99% of Ontario’s and Quebec’s populations and approximately 97% of Atlantic Canada’s population at the end of FY2016. Further, it operated over 4,000 public wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) hotspots at participating McDonald’s, Tim Hortons and Chapters/Indigo retail outlets across Canada, in addition to Wi-Fi networks managed through business markets team at enterprise customer locations. In FY2016, the Bell Wireless segment reported revenues of C$7,117 million, which accounted for 32.8% of the company’s total revenue.

Bell Media segment offers conventional, specialty and pay TV, digital media, and radio broadcasting services and out-of-home (OOH) advertising services to customers across Canada. Bell Media owns 30 conventional TV stations, including CTV, Canada’s leading TV network based on viewership. It also owns and operates 30 specialty TV channels, including TSN, RDS and Discovery and four national pay TV services, including The Movie network and Super Ecran. In addition, the segment operates 105 licensed radio stations in 54 markets across Canada and nearly 200 websites and over 30 Internet applications. The company also owns 50% interest in Dome Productions Partnership, a provider of sports and other event production and broadcast facilities. In addition, the company has a network of more than 30,000 advertising faces in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. In FY2016, the Bell Media segment reported revenues of C$2,685 million, which accounted for 12.4% of the company’s total revenue.
