CITIC Pacific Limited is China’s largest conglomerate and a constituent of the Hang Seng Index. The group focus primarily on financial services, resources and energy, manufacturing, engineering contracting and real estate. The group operates in Hong Kong, mainland China, Australia, Africa, North America, Japan and Singapore.
CITIC Pacific generates revenues through six business segments: Financial Services, Manufacturing, Resources and Energy, Real Estate, Engineering Contracting, and Others.
The Financial Services segment includes banking, trust, asset management, securities and insurance services. The group provides domestic and overseas banking services through CITIC Bank; securities services through CITIC Securities; trust services through CITIC Trust; and insurance services through CITIC Prudential.
CITIC Bank is a commercial bank providing corporate banking services and supported by retail banking and financial markets business. CITIC Securities covers investment banking, brokerage, securities trading and asset management. CITIC Trust provides private equity funds, industry investment funds, assets securitization, non-performing assets liquidation, enterprise annuities, equity trust and asset management for Qualified Domestic Institutional Investors. CITIC Prudential is a 50:50 joint venture between CITIC Limited (CITIC) and Prudential, offering life, health and accident insurance.
In FY2016, the Financial Services segment reported revenues of HKD187,537 million, which accounted for 49.2% of the company’s total revenue.
Under the Manufacturing segment, the group manufactures special steel, heavy machinery, and aluminum wheels and castings. CITIC Pacific Special Steel’s major products includes bars, plates, seamless steel tubes, wires, forging steel and big casting round billets. CITIC Heavy Industries engages in the design and development of large sets of technical equipment, large castings and forgings, as well as the provision of related services to customers in the mining, construction materials, coal, metallurgical, non-ferrous, power electronics and environmental protection industries.
In addition, CITIC Dicastal is a producer and an exporter of automotive aluminum wheels. It also produces automotive lightweight aluminum castings, including chassis parts, power train parts and body parts. The group currently has 21 manufacturing bases across China, North America and Europe. The total annual production capacity is 48 million aluminum wheels and approximately 97,800 tons of aluminum castings.
In FY2016, the Manufacturing segment reported revenues of HKD62,350 million, which accounted for 16.4% of the company’s total revenue.
The Resources and Energy segment comprises exploration, mining, processing, trading of energy products and mineral resources as well as electricity generation. CITIC Pacific has interests in projects in China, Australia, Brazil, Peru, Gabon, Indonesia and Kazakhastan. CITIC Resources has interests in oil exploration, development and production; coal mining; import and export of commodities; aluminum smelting; and manganese mining and processing. CITIC Mining International, through its Australian subsidiary, CITIC Pacific Mining, is engaged in developing one of the largest magnetite operations in Australia, the Sino Iron project (Sino Iron), in the mineral-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
CITIC Metal focuses on mining project investment and the trading of resources, including ferroniobium, iron ore, steel, non-ferrous metals and coal. CITIC United Asia holds a stake in China Platinum, China’s largest platinum importer. Sunburst Energy Development manages several power plants and a coal mine in China.
In FY2016, the Resources and Energy segment reported revenues of HKD50,254 million, which accounted for 13.2% of the company’s total revenue.
The Engineering Contracting segment offers infrastructure, housing and industrial construction services and municipal engineering projects. CITIC Construction is a provider of integrated engineering construction services. Its main business covers general engineering contracting in infrastructure, civil construction, and industrial projects. In addition, the company is involved in importing and exporting mechanical and electrical equipment. It is also exploring opportunities in energy resources engineering, agricultural engineering and other related fields. CITIC Engineering Design is a municipal engineering design and management company and owns a number of patents.
In FY2016, the Engineering Contracting segment reported revenues of HKD11,023 million, which accounted for 2.9% of the company’s total revenue.
The Real Estate segment comprises the development, sale and management of commercial properties and integrated property projects in mainland China and Hong Kong. CITIC Pacific Properties is a property developer which focuses on high-end commercial properties as well as integrated urban projects. CITIC Urban Development and Operation focuses on real estate finance, urban renewal, urban development and operations, and PPP projects.
In FY2016, the Real Estate segment reported revenues of HKD4,900 million, which accounted for 1.3% of the company’s total revenue.
The Other business segment includes information services; general trading, distribution and logistics business; infrastructure; environmental services; modern agriculture; publishing; and general aviation.
In FY2016, the Others segment reported revenues of HKD64,723 million, which accounted for 17% of the company’s total revenue.
Geographically, the group classifies its operations into three geographies, namely Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, and Overseas. In FY2016, Mainland China segment accounted for 85.2% of the company’s total revenues, followed by Hong Kong and Macau with 7.1%; and Overseas with 7.7%.
