Continental Grain Company (Continental or ‘the company’) is a US-based company whose businesses include ventures into poultry, pork, beef, animal feed, and flour milling. It operates in the US, Latin America, Asia, and the Caribbean.
The company operates its agribusiness through three subsidiaries: ContiAsia; ContiLatin; and Wayne Farms. It also has strategic alliances with the following companies: Castleton Commodities International; Charoen Pokphand Group; Overseas Shipholding Group; and Seaboard Corporation.
ContiAsia is engaged in feed milling, animal husbandry, and poultry production and processing in China. The subsidiary operates over 30 wholly-owned and joint venture companies, which are divided into four separate business units: Continental Capital; ContiFeed Group; Conti Chia Tai International; and Hong Wai Foods.
Continental Capital participates with Arlon Group in making strategic investments in emerging Asia agribusiness firms and supports the growth and development of those businesses. ContiFeed Group includes eight premix/feed production sites, an animal health plant, and more than 60 warehouse and distribution sites in China. Conti Chia Tai International is a 50/50 joint venture with Charoen Pokphand and includes five feedmills, a premix plant, and an animal drug plant. Hong Wai Foods sells frozen poultry products from the US and other countries into China.
ContiLatin provides a range of feed and flour milling, oilseed crushing, poultry production and commodity supply to customers in Latin America and the Caribbean. In a joint venture with local partners in Venezuela, ContiLatin is invested in one of the largest integrated poultry companies in the Maracaibo region of that country. In Ecuador, ContiLatin is a partner in the largest flour milling company as well as one of the largest independent feed manufacturers.
In Peru, ContiLatin is a co-owner of one of the largest commodity marketing group. Additionally, ContiLatin is the majority owner and operator of one of the top five integrated poultry operations in Peru. ContiLatin owns and operates one of the two largest crushing operations in Paraguay, and is a major marketer of consumer products in the Asuncion, Paraguay area. In the Caribbean, ContiLatin operates the sole flour mill at Haiti in a joint venture with the government of Haiti.
Wayne Farms subsidiary provides poultry products to restaurant chains, frozen food processors, and other retail companies in the US. It owns and operates 11 fresh and further-processed facilities throughout the Southeast US and produces more than 2.6 billion pounds of poultry products each year. Wayne Farms sells its products under the brand names of WAYNE FARMS, DUTCH QUALITY HOUSE, CHEF’S CRAFT and PLATINUM HARVEST.
