Eni S.p.A Company is an integrated energy company. The company and its consolidated subsidiaries are engaged in oil and natural gas exploration, field development and production, as well as in the supply, trading and shipping of natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), electricity, fuels and chemical products. The company operates in 73 countries. The company operates its business through foursegments: gas and power; refining and marketing; exploration and production; and corporate and other activities. The gas and power segment engages in supply, trading and marketing of gas and electricity, international gas transport activities, and LNG supply and marketing.

This segment also includes the activity of electricity generation that is ancillary to the marketing of electricity. In FY2016, Eni’s worldwide sales of natural gas amounted to 88.9 billion cubic meters (BCM). Sales in Italy amounted to 38.4 BCM, while sales in European markets were 50.5 BCM which included 4.4BCM of gas sold to certain importers to Italy. Eni’s power generation sites are located in FerreraErbognone, Ravenna, Livorno, Mantova, Brindisi, Ferrara and Bolgiano. In FY2016, Eni had a total installed capacity of 4.7gigawatts (GW). In 2016, sales of power totaled 37.1 terawatt hours (TWh).As of December 31, 2016, the gas and power segment recorded revenues of E32,063 million ($37,432 million), a decrease of 24% as compared to FY2015. The refining and marketing segment is engaged in crude oil supply and refining and marketing of petroleum products at retail and wholesale markets mainly in Italy and in the rest of Europe.

In FY2016, the processed volumes of crude oil and other feedstock amounted to 24.5 million metric (mm) tons and sales of refined products were 33.4 mm tons, of which 25.6 mm tons were in Italy. Retail sales of refined products at Eni’s service stations amounted to 8.6mm tons in Italy and in the rest of Europe. The refining and marketing segment recorded revenues of E17,128 million ($19,996.1 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 17% as compared to FY2015.

The exploration and production segment engages in oil and natural gas exploration and field development and production, as well as LNG operations in 44 countries, including Italy, Libya, Egypt, Norway, the UK, Angola, Congo, Nigeria, the US, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Australia, Venezuela, Iraq, Ghana and Mozambique. In FY2016, Eni average daily production amounted to 1.7 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MMBOE/d) on an available-for-sale basis. As of December 31, 2016, Eni’s total proved reserves amounted to 7,490 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE); proved reserves of subsidiaries totaled 6,613 MMBOE; Eni’s share of reserves of equity-accounted entities was 877MMBOE. In FY2016 oil and gas productive wells were 9,399(3,737.6 of which represented Eni’s share).

In particular, oil productive wells were 6,673(2,494.7 of which represented Eni’s share) and natural gas productive wells amounted to 2,726(1,242.9 of which represented Eni’s share). In FY2016, a total of 16new exploratory wells were drilled (10.2 of which represented Eni’s share).The exploration and production segment recorded revenues of E6,378 million ($7,446 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 31.6% as compared to FY2015.

The corporate and others segment comprises results of operations of Eni’s headquarter and certain of its subsidiaries engaged in treasury, finance, and other general and business support services. Eni’s headquarter is a department of the parent company Eni S.p.A and performs group strategic planning, human resources management, finance, administration, information technology, legal affairs, international affairs, and corporate research and development functions. The segment comprises results of operations of Eni’s subsidiary Syndial which runs minor petrochemical activities and reclamation and decommissioning activities pertaining to certain businesses which Eni exited, divested, or shut down in past years.The corporate and other activities segment recorded revenues of E193 million ($225.3 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 25.3% as compared to FY2015.

Eni is also engaged in commodity risk management and asset-backed trading activities. Through the trading department of the parent company and its wholly-owned subsidiary Eni Trading & Shipping SpA, the company is engaged in derivative activities targeting the full spectrum of energy commodities on both the physical and financial trading venues. Eni Trading & Shipping SpA and its subsidiaries also provide Eni’s companies with crude oil and products supply, trading and shipping services. Geographically, Italy, Eni’s largest geographical market, accounted for 38.2% of the total revenues in FY2016. Revenues from Italy reached E21,280 million ($24,843.3 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 12.8% as compared to FY2015. Other European Union accounted for 28.4% of the total revenues in FY2016. Revenues from other European Union reached E15,808 million ($18,455.1 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 23.7% as compared to FY2015.

Asia accounted for 10.1% of the total revenues in FY2016. Revenues from Asia reached E5,619 million ($6,559.9 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 38.2% as compared to FY2015. Africa accounted for 8.7% of the total revenues in FY2016. Revenues from Africa reached E4,865 million ($5,679.6 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 24.9% as compared to FY2015. Americas accounted for 5.8% of the total revenues in FY2016. Revenues from Americas reached E3,212 million ($3,749.9 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 23.8% as compared to FY2015. Rest of Europe accounted for 8.6% of the total revenues in FY2016. Revenues from rest of Europe reached E4,804 million ($5,608.4 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 32.6% as compared to FY2015. Other areas accounted for 0.3% of the total revenues in FY2016. Revenues from other areas reached E174 million ($203.1 million) in FY2016, a decrease of 27.8% as compared to FY2015.
