As of FY2016, the company operated 19,452 authorized dealerships globally. GM operates in more than 61 countries worldwide with major presence in the US, Canada, Brazil, Korea, the UK, and Germany.
The company operates through five business segments, GM North America (GMNA), GM Europe (GME), GM International Operations (GMIO), GM South America (GMSA), and GM Financial.
During FY2016, GMNA operated a network of 4,857 authorized dealers. GMNA primarily meets the demands of customers in North America with vehicles developed, manufactured and/or marketed under the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC brands. In FY2016, the GMNA segment reported revenues of $119,022 million, which accounted for 71.6% of the company’s total revenue.
GME operated a network of 6,104 authorized dealers. In FY2016, the GME segment reported revenues of $18,707 million, which accounted for 11.3% of the company’s total revenue.
GMIO operated a network of 7,232 authorized dealers. In FY2016, the GMIO segment reported revenues of $11,749 million, which accounted for 7.1% of the company’s total revenue.
GMSA operated a network of 1,259 authorized dealers. In FY2016, the GMSA segment reported revenues of $7,223 million, which accounted for 4.3% of the company’s total revenue.
The demands of customers outside North America are primarily met with vehicles developed, manufactured and/or marketed under the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Holden, Opel, and Vauxhall brands. The company also has equity ownership stakes directly or indirectly in entities through various regional subsidiaries, primarily in Asia. These companies design, manufacture, and market vehicles under the Alpheon, Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jiefang, and Wuling brands.
In addition to consumer retail sales, the company sells cars and trucks to fleet customers, including daily rental car companies, commercial fleet customers, leasing companies and governments. GM also provides wide range of after sale vehicle services and products through its dealer network, such as maintenance, light repairs, collision repairs, vehicle accessories, and extended service warranties.
During FY2016, the company sold a total of 6,247,000 vehicles, including 3,958,000 vehicles in North America; 1,162,000 vehicles in Europe; 568,000 vehicle sales in South America; and 559,000 vehicle sales in other international operations.
