Green Plains Inc is a producer, marketer, and distributor of ethanol. The company has an ethanol production capacity of approximately 1.2 billion gallons per year with 14 ethanol plants in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Green Plains also operates an independent third party ethanol marketing business, Green Plains Trade. The company primarily operates in the US. The company classifies its business operations into four reportable segments: ethanol production, agribusiness and energy services, food and food ingredients, and partnership. The company’s ethanol production segment includes the production of ethanol, distillers grains and corn oil at 17 ethanol plants in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Mi nnesota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. These plans have the capacity to consume approximately 524 million bushels of corn per year, 1.5 billion gallons of ethanol, 4.1 million tons of distillers grains and 340 million pounds of industrial grade corn oil. The company’s plants use a dry mill process to produce ethanol and co-products such as wet, modified wet or dried distillers grains, as well as corn oil.

As of December 31, 2016, the ethanol production segment reported revenue of US$2,409.1 million or 70.7% of the company’s total revenues. Under the agribusiness and energy services segment, Green Plains procures grain with approximately 60.3 million bushels of grain storage capacity. The segment is also involved in commodity marketing business, which markets, sells and distributes ethanol, distillers grains and corn oil produced at ethanol plants. It also markets ethanol for a third-party producer as well as buy and sell ethanol, distillers grains, corn oil, crude oil, grain, natural gas and other commodities in various markets.

As of December 31, 2016, the agribusiness and energy services segment reported revenue of US$675.4 million or 19.8% of the company’s total revenues. Food and food ingredients segment of Green Plains includes a cattle feedlot operation with the capacity to support 73,000 head of cattle and grain storage capacity of approximately 2.8 million bushels, and Fleischmann’s Vinegar, a producer of food-grade industrial vinegar. As of December 31, 2016, the agribusiness and energy services segment reported revenue of US$318 million or 9.3% of the company’s total revenues. The partnership segment provides fuel storage and transportation services by owning, operating, developing and acquiring ethanol and fuel storage tanks, terminals, transportation assets and other related assets and businesses. The segment’s assets include 39 ethanol storage facilities, eight fuel terminal facilities and approximately 3,100 leased railcars.

As of December 31, 2016, the agribusiness and energy services segment reported revenue of US$8.3 million or 0.2% of the company’s total revenues.
